Harris County
Baldwin Boettcher Library
The Baldwin Boettcher Library is located within the central core of Mercer Botanic Gardens. In 2017, the existing library was inundated by flood waters resulting from Hurricane Harvey. Instead of demolishing a popular facility, Harris County, through grants and allocations, dedicated $4 million of funds to refurbish, renovate and modernize the function and services of the library.
Collaborate provided pre-design and schematic design phase services for the Harris County Baldwin Boettcher Library which was severely damaged by Hurricane Harvey. During the pre-design phase Collaborate helped the County determine if it would be best to renovate the existing damaged building or re-build on a new site. Pre-design phase services included producing a master plan for the prospective site, program development of the new library, work with 3rd party cost estimator for cost control, evaluate the existing damaged building and site conditions.
Damage to the facility was so bad that the county decided the best thing to do was to relocate and rebuild the library from the ground – up. The Collaborate team was also awarded the project and designed of the new facility.
